Huckleberry’s BBQ Boo Brunch Showcases Edge Brewing Barcelona’s Craft Beer to Benefit Local Tryon Rescue, HELPING EQUINES REGAIN DIGNITY (HERD)
Huckleberry’s, Tryon, N.C.’s popular gathering spot on Trade Street, announces a charitable BBQ Boo Brunch offering the much-anticipated craft beers from Edge Brewing Barcelona. A family event, guests can look forward to live music, a Spooktacular menu, guest bartenders and more. 100% of proceeds of all Edge Brewing Barcelona beer sales go to benefiting HERD, Helping Equines Regain Dignity. Beers are priced at $6.
Huckleberry’s is pleased to introduce the Stable Stack Sandwich on focaccia bread with ham, pulled pork pickles, swiss cheese with Cuban sauce for $11. $1 dollar for each sandwich sold will go to HERD’s general fund. In addition, a percentage of all North Carolina crafted beers, liquors and wines will be added to Huckleberry’s project for rescue horses, The Barn that Booze Built fund.
Edge Brewing was established in Barcelona in 2013 by two Americans who were so eager to join the craft beer revolution in Europe that they brought a brewery. Combining finely engineered American brewing equipment, the best ingredients available and many years of brewing experience, they are now making fresh, genuine, American craft beer for the local market.
Edge Brewing Equestrian, the philanthropic arm of Edge Brewing Barcelona, SAVING HORSES ONE BEER AT A TIME ™, donates a portion of their profits from the European beer portfolio to thoughtfully selected charity organizations. They are pleased to announce that HERD, Helping Equines Regain Dignity, based in Tryon, NC, will receive 100% of all sales of the sales at Huckleberry’s. HERD is a 501C3 non-profit equine rescue group that saves equines from dire conditions and in many cases slaughter. Through fundraising and support in the community, HERD rescues, restores, and retrains equines to adopt them to approved homes, giving them a second chance to excel in a productive life. To date HERD has helped over 1,000 horses find new homes.

National attention about the plight of slaughter bound equines
I am so proud of Heather, Stuart Evans, all of our volunteers, board members, all the people that have adopted a rescued equine and the people that donate to make this all happen! The recent article on HERD has made all sorts of national papers across the country. The more we all speak up for the lives being subjected to such cruelty, the more people that have no idea about the torture will hear!

A Wonderful Article on HERD In CHRONICLE of the HORSE / UnTACKED
In our wildest dreams we did not think we would save so many equines in 2017. It took a lot of time, money and pasture space that our HERD volunteers have donated. Thank you all for saving and rehabilitating these lives! It takes a HERD to make this happen and all of our HERD members, adoption and foster families have made a huge difference! I want to make a special thank you to our board members Stuart Evans, Sue Z Truitt and Elaine Freeman whose expertise was so instrumental, as well as Rick Millweard who heads up our dedicated training volunteers like Debra Carton and Karen Mastruserio. There are just so many people like the Olivers at Edge Brewing Equestrian, Dot Moyer, Ann Swift, Barbara Claussen and many of our neighbors who donate space and time everyday, the list is just so long and all with such big hearts.

Ishmael the Florida Cracker horse dining out for breakfast
As Ishmael the Florida Cracker horse becomes a little comfortable with the routine, I introduce something different that he finds scary. It has been a slow process getting him to
trust me. Today, the morning feeding routine changed for him. We took a hike through Jo's meadow and up to the top of Meyrs' Peak so he could be fed by the God of Molten Steel. It took him a long time to relax enough to get to the bottom of the bucket, but he figured it out. Poor guy, the things that must have been done to him! He is such a gentle horse. Once he sheds this baggage about two leggers, he is going to be a great companion.
Super coverage by Lisa Thomas at Mid-Atlantic Equestrian Services on HERD's clinic with KYB Dressage that was held at Renovation Farm in Tryon. Thank you to the Oliver's at Edge Brewing Equestrian for all their help and continuing support of abused and neglected equines!
HERD CLINIC DAY 2 with KYB DRESSAGE
A little cool, a little drizzly but still great instruction This was a very good and informative clinic this Saturday!
Yvonne Barteau of KYB Dressage tells the spectators that she often hears riders say that a horse being evaluated is to old to be useful. She disagrees. This beautiful animal is in his 20's! Her point in the discussion? Don't throw an old friend away to auction, they have plenty of uses. What rider wouldn't want to go to a lesson or show on this guy or what trainer wouldn't want to teach a client on-board this kind of experience!!! If a TB isn't fast enough on the track, a quarter horse isn't quick enough around the barrels, or age has made him not flashy enough for the big show. It's time to reevaluate their job description, not time to throw them away to auction where they most likely will end up on a meat wagon!
HERD Clinic Day 1 with Yvonne and Kim Barteau from KYB Dressage
What a wonderful day in the Foothills of NC! Day one of a two-day clinic being taught by renowned FEI Trainer & USDF Gold/Silver/Bronze Yvonne and Kim Barteau! A big thank you to Trayce Doubek–Dierks and Eric Dierks, owners of Renovatio Farms for donating their beautiful facility for this event as well as all the sponsors that made this possible.
Three of our HERD babies were brought in by trailer for Yvonne Barteau to assess. Amelia, Stuart and Bob were excellent on their first off property adventure. We are so proud of all the work our volunteers have done to bring these youngsters from scared, malnourished horses from a kill pen to what they are today, brave, happy horses ready for adoption. You can learn more about these three at www.herdrescue.org

Her creativity flows into choreographing some of the best musical freestyles in this country, authoring books, including the award winning, Ride the Right Horse and the Dressage Horse Manifesto. Kim and Yvonne offer clinics around the world to help others become better trainers, riders and competitors and the KYB Dressage dynamic duo is also recognized for their film successes.
Edge Brewing Barcelona & Their Sponsorship of HERD & The Tryon International Film Festival
Edge Brewing Barcelona was founded in 2013 by co-owners Scott Vanover and Tryon area resident Christian Oliver who wanted to bring American craft beer to the European market. In 2014, Edge Brewing Barcelona was voted top new brewer in the world, and that success enabled them to start a philanthropic arm of their company named Edge Brewing Equestrian. All profits from Edge Brewing Equestrian’s line of beers will be donated to an equine based charity, and this year local horse rescue group HERD, Helping Equines Regain Dignity, was selected as their beneficiary.
Kim Oliver is delighted that Edge Brewing Barcelona is bringing increased awareness to HERD through their sponsorship of the Tryon International Film Festival taking place October 27th to the 29th https://filmfreeway.com/festival/TRIFF17. This sponsorship will enable KYB Dressage trainers, performers and horses to come to Tryon during this year’s festival, during which their movie, 'Into the Spotlight: The Journey of an Equine Theater Horse' 2017 will be shown at the Opening Night Gala on Friday, October 27, 2017.
While visiting the Tryon area to support their movie, the KYB Dressage team has generously offered their expertise to teach clinics and perform and are donating their usual fees to help local horse rescue organization HERD. Edge Brewing Barcelona is proud to support organizations like TRIFF, HERD and KYB Dressage who share in their commitment to raise awareness about the plight of unwanted horses, highlighting rescue, retraining and repurposing efforts.
